Passing by the artwork | Olympus OM-1n + Zuiko 28mm f2.8, DSLR scanned and converted with Negative Lab Pro

52 Weeks of Photography – Week 5

IP Smith February 5, 2026

Another week where work and personal life meant I barely got out to shoot. I spent most of my non-9 to 5 creative time converting a bunch of film negatives from last year which I’d DSLR scanned along with 10 other films containing my wedding and ‘mini-moon’, so the general daily life photos didn’t really seem as exciting at the time.

While I did shoot some casual bits on the trusty EDC camera, the Canon EOS M6, they were mainly testing it’s limits in low light ahead of a trip later this year, so were far more functional than interesting, focusing instead of making the camera work in awkward situations than creating an image worthy of being shared.

For this weeks image I’ve chosen a film shot which I’d got back from the lab and DSLR scanned.

It’s from a sunny morning in Sheffield the weekend before on the way to drop off the roll, I had two shots left and had wanted to capture a shot of this piece by Phlegm, the car passing through the frame made for a more interesting foreground than simply the shadow pattern on the floor.

Captured on an Olympus OM-1n with the Zuiko 28mm f2.8 lens. The image has then been digitised by scanning it with a Fuji X-H2 and a 7Artisans 60mm f2.8 Macro before converting it in Lightroom using the Negative Lab Pro plug in.

52 Weeks of Photography – Week 4

IP Smith February 4, 2026

Shot on a video shoot with my 9-5 employer Tentsile, we were filming out at Lawrencefield in the Peak District amongst some small hills, in a location which stays unnaturally green throughout the whole winter thanks to it being sheltered from much of the harsh weather on the moors and the abundance of grass and moss at ground level.

I shot this image after nipping back to the gear store and seeing my co-worker on top of a nearby mound watching the video shoot below. The yellow coat really stood out amongst the organic back drop.

It was a bit slim pickings this week for a photo to choose for this project as due to the video shoot taking up a ton of time I didn’t really get out to shoot much, but spending a few full days in the Peak made up for that.

The House On The Hill | Fujifilm X-H2 + XF 16-55mm f2.8 R LM WR

52 Weeks of Photography – Week 3

IP Smith January 22, 2026

Keeping with the previous weeks landscape theme, the house upon the hill was my pick for week 3 of the year.

Shot on the Fujifilm X-H2 with the XF 16-55mm f2.8 lens, this photo was taken near Redmires on the edge of the Peak District. I’ve shot this house/hut so many times but never actually known the spots real name, we tend to just refer to it as ‘The Haunted House’, a name and suspicion passed down from my dad who used to walk there when he was a youth.

I’d originally planned to shoot Sheffield city centre, but after an hour or so walking around I just had no inspiration to capture anything and decided to take the dog out in the Peak instead. Luckily, the clouds broke and the light was incredible for about 30 minutes just as I arrived at the spot, allowing me to capture some great moments in the sun before the grey conditions returned.

52 Weeks of Photography – Week 2

IP Smith January 22, 2026

I’m not much of a landscape photographer, but I seem to have spent a fair amount of time out in the Peak District to start the year.

I shot this image on my little EDC camera, the Canon EOS M6, with the 22mm f2 pancake lens, while one a location scouting session for a commercial video shoot. Taken between Lawrencefield and Padley Gorge, I liked how the green mossy foreground rocks contrasted with the bare winter trees, and the golden lighting really topped it off for me.

I’ve been consistently impressed by the performance of the little Canon M series camera, to the point I’ve been planning on taking it as the main camera for some upcoming shoots I’ve got planned.

The largest challenge shooting this image was trying to keep my labrador Doris from walking in the frame while lining it up.

52 Weeks of Photography: Week 1

Happy New Year!

For 2026 I’ve decided to undertake a weekly project to keep me active and engaged with photography between trips. I found last year that outside of work shoots I would rarely pick my camera up while at home or day to day, which was leading to me feeling far less interested in photography.

To combat this in 2026 I’ve picked up a small every day carry camera and will be assessing the photos I took that week and picking a favourite to write a short piece around why and how I shot it, and why it’s my favourite shot from that week.

While I primarily shoot on Fuji cameras, I’ve been carrying the Canon EOS M6 with a 22mm f2 pancake lens for the last few months for daily/EDC use, trying to capture more day to day photos. I’ve effectively used it as a poor mans Ricoh GR4, that I don’t mind chucking in a bag and being a little less precious with. Over Christmas I adapted my old Olympus film era lenses to use on the M series body, which was originally for a bit of novelty value but ended up being used to shoot some of my favourite recent photos.

Kicking off the year is this portrait of my wife Hannah. It’s very different from my usual cityscape personal work but was a really fun image to shoot, and made for a nice personal print. I like how the vintage lens renders a sharp image but not clinically sharp, making it perfectly imperfect for flattering and appealing portraits.

This shot was shot on an afternoon dog walk during golden hour at Winfell Quarry, and taken on the Canon EOS M6 using the Olympus Zuiko OM 35mm F2.8 lens, shot at f4 and post processed in Adobe Lightroom.
